Is Lake Travis Man Made?

Yes, Lake Travis is man made. Mansfield Dam was built between 1937-1941 by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for flood control after devastating floods hit Austin in the 1930s.

The dam stands 266 feet tall and 7,089 feet across. Before the dam, this valley held farms and small communities—now underwater. During extreme droughts, remnants sometimes become visible.
